Bowness Open House & Humanities

No Math & Science homework tonight...focus on Hum test prep & attending the Bowness Open House if that is part of your plan.

Today in Science we went over frames of reference, Helio/GeoCentric Models, really smart dead guys (Aristotle, Ptolemy, Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton), and altitude/azimuth.  There were some dance moves if you must know!!

In Math, we reviewed the persnickety -1 and looked closely at bases.  We reviewed repeated multiplication & worked on simplifying & evaluating.  We looked at our first exponent rule...multiplying powers with the same bases.

There will 2 Unit Assessments for Math & Science...Dec 14th & 15th before the break.

Humanities

Equity and Equality
Fairness and Sameness
Please make sure you have complete your final thought reflection for tomorrow:
How does equity and equality play into our justice system?  Should our justice system be harder on youths who commit crime, compared to adults? Why or Why not? We will be discussing  it before we move on to YCJA at its finest.

VIVO & Biodiversity Review Materials on D2L

Please ensure that you have everything that you need for our awesome VIVO day on Monday.  Bring a bagged lunch, water bottle, anything you need for skating/swimming etc.

Please get some rest this weekend...most of you look very tired.

Today we discussed strategies for studying for Science.  I enrolled you into our D2L shell (not the Cougar Community shell but a shell for 901 & 902) and uploaded a bunch of PDF files for you under the News Section.

Here are some cool questions 903 & 904 were discussing:

1.How does artificial selection differ from what you learned earlier in this unit about natural selection? Use examples in your explanation.

2. Simplify an explanation of artificial selection in a way that a student in grade 4 could easily understand it.

3.Scientists have created crops that contain a toxin that kills any insect that eats them. Some farmers have been growing corn plants that contain this toxin. Corn without this toxin is a food supply for the corn weevil, which destroys the corn crop, and the monarch butterfly, which is a protected species. What advice would you give to farmers growing this crop?

Please keep the Math alive by working through p. 60 #4-9...should be done for Tuesday.  Thanks.
