Today we received feedback on What's in the Bag analysis questions & pushed forward through Chemical & Physical properties...there is a double period lab on Monday.

In Math we looked at one-step equations.

Assignment:

1. Read / Look over p. 292 - 300

2. p. 301-303 Q 4-6, 8, 10  *****due for Friday if you are in 901 ****up to the end of question 10

3. p. 301-303 Q 12-30 (*Pick any 6) *****due for all on Tuesday

Please check your answers in the back of the book to get some immediate feedback.

All Day I think about Literary Devices and Speeches

Both 902 and 901 will have two classes to write a speech.  You will have a finished printed copy in class on Monday (NOT PRINTING IN CLASS!) to present to a group of students to receive a peer evaluation. Your speech will be marked on content but also on preparedness. We will all be presenting our speeches early next week.

902-  You will have to complete your "All Day I Think About Literary Devices" for Tomorrow.

Science---What's in the Bag Lab

Today we did a lab on chemical changes...if you were snowshoeing, we can ramp you up on Thursday with a demo & your analysis work will be due Friday.

If you were present for the lab, please have your analysis questions & observations completed for Thursday.  There will be a homework check on Thursday...lots of people with work not completed for today.

In Math, we reviewed fraction operations as we begin Algebra as our next unit study.  Please bring a notebook for our new unit.  Thank you.

9:15                        All students go to the gym – you will be called down – wait for the call

9:30                        Whole School Be Brave Dance Practice (including students not attending the                                        game)

9:40                       Students start getting on busses as directed

10:00                     Busses depart when all students are accounted for

10:30                     Arrive at the Saddledome and enter building

11:00 – 1:30         Hockey Game and Be Brave Event

1:30 – 1:45           Prepare to leave – all students meet with their connection adult

Stereotypes

A stereotype is a widely held but oversimplified idea of a person or thing.  Often these oversimplifications are used to make quick judgements without investing any time in understanding.  Combining with our tendency to confirm what we already believe, stereotypes become difficult to dislodge.

Why do we create stereotypes?

How are they created?  What sources of learning do we draw from to form these stereotypes?

Episode Three- Sacred Ground

Where do you come from? Where did your ancestors come from? You are a guardian of your ancestral spirit; your job today is to research about your ancestors and create a bundle. Your bundle should include wisdom and pictures that you will record in your Visual Journal.  Most importantly your bundle should contain a story from your Ancestors. A story you are willing to share with the class.  Your story should be about 1-2 minutes in length at least.

The Grassland Ecology

It’s easy to think of the prairie grassland as an empty land devoid of life. Unfortunately, just as we stereotype people, we also stereotype landscapes.  Our first impressions are not necessarily accurate ones. The ecology of the grasslands is rich and diverse and could be studied for years on its own.

Ecology- the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.

Episode 4

Iiniistis is the Blackfoot word for treaty, an agreement.  Treaties were made with not just people but also land and the animals.  The most sacred of treaties were reinforced through ceremony and continued relationship.

Episode 6-Living in the Present

We need many “Elders”.

We all have a gift within us that can make tomorrow a better place. Knowing where you come from helps us understand who we are. Knowing where we are headed gives us guidance.  Being present in this moment and acknowledging ourselves allows us to share our values and beliefs. What are you going to teach us?

Polynomials Unit Assessment on Wednesday

Wednesday is your Math assessment...usual format...multiple choice & word problems.

Please ensure that you are really jumping into your review this weekend.  Exam covers all of Chapter 5 & Chapter 7.  901, you are through all of the curriculum...902, you have 7.3 to cover as of yet.

Review materials were handed out on Thursday...ensure that you are delving into reasoning problems.  Area, perimeter, volume are all included so please make sure that you are getting practice on these.

You can also be working through the Chapter reviews & practice tests in the textbook.

Homeroom Announcemements

Monday is the absolute latest for high school forms...they are past due & needing to be processed.  Please ensure that your form is handed in.  We also need your blue report card folders back.

Citizenship Ceremony is March 16th at the school...please mark it on the calendar.

HDC Open House is March 2nd in the evening.  We will be looking for volunteers this evening.

Creating Your Bundle and READ THEORY PIZZA PARTY

Where do you come from? Where did your ancestors come from?  You are a guardian of your ancestral spirit; your job is to research about your ancestors and create bundle. Your bundle should include wisdom and pictures that you will record in your Visual Journal.  Most importantly your bundle should contain a story from your Ancestors.  A story you are willing to share with the class. Your story should be about 1-2 minutes in length at least.

On Monday we will be sharing our stories with the class.
If you are struggling because you are unsure of your ancestry then you may use your grandparents or even your parents.  These stories will include wisdom, artifacts, pictures or sayings that you feel you would pass along to your children one day or other humans younger then you.

COMPETITION IS ON! Start reading, whatever class has accumulated the most read theory time get a delicious pizza party.  I love pizza and competitions so get reading my little nuggets or feel the wrath of the pizza monger.
