Stereotypes
A stereotype is a widely held but oversimplified idea of a
person or thing. Often these
oversimplifications are used to make quick judgment's without investing any
time in understanding. Combining with
our tendency to confirm what we already believe, stereotypes become difficult
to dislodge.
Why do we create stereotypes?
How are they created?
What sources of learning do we draw from to form these stereotypes?
Why are stereotypes constraining?
What kind of inquiry or experience would be required to
overcome stereotypes?
Using your visual journal, in proper grade nine response form,
please reflect upon the following:
How does an accurate understanding of history contribute
to breaking down stereotypes?
Completing the Ending of Waverly's story:
Please bring a printed copy of your story to Wednesday's class. It will be handed in at the end of the period on Wednesday.
Complete and hand in "Writing like a Pro" worksheet. Remember it takes time with new tools to learn what works for you. Practice your techniques, and then we will be given a chance to integrate them into our works.
